Starting May 6, 2013!

The Cupertino Library Foundation supports the Tech Toolbar program at the Cupertino LibraryWhat is the Tech Toolbar?

“Think of it as a ‘genius bar on wheels’”, said Mark Fink, Cupertino community librarian. “We have a sleek portable display featuring the latest tablet computers and e-readers on the market today, and trained volunteers and staff to teach patrons how to use the devices.”

The Tech Toolbar and its trained volunteer team are brought to the community by the Santa Clara County Library District, the Cupertino Library and the Cupertino Library Foundation. It is believed this approach to educating the public about these types of devices and library resources is unique in California.

Please contact the Cupertino Library Foundation for sponsorship opportunities.

Learn to Download eBooks

Tech Toolbar volunteers are trained to show both adults and youth how to download library eBooks (and other eContent) on all of the devices, as well as referring patrons to Library staff for more in-depth consultation or troubleshooting.

For individuals who need more personalized assistance getting started with their tablets or e-readers, they can drop in or call the Adult/Teen Reference Desk at the Cupertino Library to schedule a 30 minute tutorial session with a librarian.

Creative Ways to Meet Cupertino Community Needs

“The library is perfectly positioned to take the lead on creative ways to meet community needs. Through our helpful staff and volunteers, our patrons can learn about new technologies that are rapidly changing the way we access information,” said Nancy Howe, the County Librarian for the Santa Clara County Library District.

Inspirations Behind Innovative Tech Toolbar

The Tech Toolbar came to life under the technical leadership of Megan Wong, the Library District’s Virtual Library Manager. “We wanted to be able to provide people with an option to try devices before they buy without the commercial overtones, and also to learn how to access digital library materials,” said Ms. Wong. “It’s truly enabling the community to have the library with them wherever they are.”
