Cupertino Library Foundation Board Members

The Board oversees the necessary functions of the Cupertino Library Foundation, which is both a California Public Benefit Corporation established in California and a charitable organization operating as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code.  In addition to fiduciary responsibility of ensuring adequate financial resources and protecting assets and providing proper financial oversight, necessary functions include but are not limited to determining mission and purpose, ensuring effective planning, monitoring and strengthening programs and services, and building and retaining a competent Board.

How You Can Make a Difference

Individual Board Roles

Individual Board terms last for three years and Board members can serve for up to two consecutive terms. Board members are expected to:

  • Attend 12 board meetings per year
  • Read board materials in advance of board meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions
  • Serve on one or more committees of the board and to actively participate in committee work
  • Play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for the Cupertino Library Foundation to achieve its mission
  • Leverage personal relationships and connections to help the Foundation identify and solicit potential funders
  • Directly invest in the Foundation’s work by making a personal contribution each year.
  • Responsibly represent the Foundation to their respective communities
  • Advocate for the Foundation’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Advisory Council

Bob Adams

Bob served as a Board member of the Cupertino Library Foundation between 2004 and 2014. His contributions included work on the Endowment Investment Sub-Committee, coordinating event sponsorships, Silicon Valley Reads events, and artists on display in the Library.

Bob is a CFP, certified financial planner practitioner and operates a solo fee-only practice in Cupertino. He founded Armstrong Retirement Planning, LLC in 2003. ARP is a RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) with the States of California and Texas.

Richard Lowenthal

Richard Lowenthal is the Chief Technical Officer of Coulomb Technologies, which he founded in 2007. He was the CEO of Coulomb from its founding until 2011. Mr. Lowenthal is a former Mayor of Cupertino and served as Chair of the Santa Clara County Library Joint Powers Authority, which oversees the Cupertino Library. Cupertino is all about education and consequently, our library is a vital part of our community. The Cupertino Library Foundation provides a valuable vehicle for our residents to give back to their beloved library.

Orrin Mahoney

Orrin Mahoney is a long-time resident of Cupertino, California. After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1967, he came to California to work at Hewlett-Packard and received a Master’s degree from Stanford while working there. After a 35-year management career at HP, he retired and devoted his time to community activities. He is a member of the Cupertino City Council, and is 2013 Mayor. In addition to many other community groups, he is an active member and past president of the Rotary Club of Cupertino. He is married, with four daughters and four grandchildren.

Eno served as a leader and board member of the Cupertino Library Foundation for over 16 years terming-off of the organization’s Board in December of 2016. Eno in recent years focused on the Foundation’s initiatives both in education including S^4TM – Super Summer Science Searches and the CU Hackathon pioneered by the Library, and in the community arts including the Performing Arts & Culture Series and the Film Series curated by Mark Larson.

Eno also is active in a number of other community volunteer efforts, for example serving as Chair of the City of Cupertino’s Audit Committee and being recognized as Citizen of the Year in 2016 by the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce as part of its annual STAR Awards (Service Teamwork Achievement Recognition). Eno served on the Cupertino Library Commission from 2001 through 2004, in 2009 received the City of Cupertino’s CREST Award (Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken) and has been designated a Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Honoree by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Silicon Valley.
