Call for Artists….Display Your Works on the Library Art Wall

The Cupertino Library Foundation along with the Fine Arts League of Cupertino and the Cupertino Library formed “The Cupertino Advisory Panel on the Exhibit of Art in the Cupertino Library.” In cooperation with the Advisory Panel, the Cupertino Library Foundation has committed resources to help sponsor various Art Displays in the Library. The Cupertino Library Foundation invites all artists in Santa Clara County who work in 2D art to apply to display their artwork at the Cupertino Library.

There is no charge to the artist for participating in the Art Display. The Cupertino Library does not take commissions on paintings sold. All sales should be handled between the artist and the customer. Artwork does not have to be for sale.

A parent or guardian must submit this application for artists under age 18, and by doing so they are giving their permission to have the artist’s name, web site (if supplied) and an example of their work placed on the Cupertino Library Foundation’s web site.

A Note for the Artist

A Note for the Artist for the Artist Display Wall at the Cupertino Library

Artistic integrity and highest quality of aesthetic experience will be the primary considerations in the selection of public art for exhibition. In addition to any exhibit-specific criteria established by the Cupertino Library, Cupertino Library Foundation, or the Fine Arts League of Cupertino, the following criteria shall apply:

Audience: The artwork will be suitable for display to a diverse audience including children. It should enhance its setting and help create a sense of place.
Style: The artwork should be suitable in scale, materials, and form for its surroundings.
Public Safety: Artwork will not be considered that is thought to pose a threat to public safety.

PHOTO RELEASE: The library may photograph loaned items and use the images for publicity in all media, including the Internet and other electronic forms of communication.

Framing Requirements

Artist Display Wall Framing Requirements

All work must be properly framed and ready to be hung as follows. Watercolors and photographs should be framed and have glass or preferably plexiglass protecting the face of the art. Plexiglass instead of glass is required for framed pieces larger than 20″ in either dimension. Wrap-around canvases will be accepted without frames provided the painting continues around the outside edge and does not have staples on the outside edges. All framed work must have suitable wire to accommodate the weight of the work and must have flat type wire connectors (D-rings) to avoid damage to walls and other art. D-rings should be secured approximately 1/3 of the height from the top of the frame. Stretch the wire tight. The raw ends of the wire must be taped. No sawtooths, clamps, clips or screw eyes can be used. Oils and acrylics should be thoroughly dry prior to exhibiting. I understand that artwork that is not framed appropriately may be rejected.
